Just Enough Light
Psalm 119: 105-112
"Your word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path."

As a beginner in an evening welding class at our vocational technical college, I was impressed with how dark it can be in a welding booth. The walls, ceiling, and curtain were dull black. When I pulled my helmet down over my face, it was extremely dark; I could not see anything. But when I turned on the welding tool, a thumb sized glow appeared, just at the point of my work. I was using a molten welding rod to weld two steel plates together. There was no excess light; just enough from the arc for me to complete the task.

That reminded me of another situation in my life. A few years before taking this welding class, I had made some mistakes, causing a business disaster for myself and others. I asked a Christian friend if he thought God would take me out of my problems. He said,”No, God won't pluck you out; but He will lead you through your problems.” And God did, giving me just enough light to see through each day and night.

Prayer: We praise you, dear Lord, for your mercy and glow of your torch of love. Amen

Thought for the day: God gives us enough light to see our next step.

POW'S PRAYER

Father,
Your own son was a prisoner
Condemned, He died for us.
Victorious, He returned to bring us
The gift of Life Everlasting.
Comfort us now in our longing for
The return of the Prisoners of War
And those Missing in Action.
Help us Father,
Inspire us to remove the obstacles,
Give courage to those who know the truth,
to speak out.
Grant wisdom to the negotiators,
and compassion to the jailers.
Show us the tools to do Your will.
Guard and bless those in captivity,
their families,
and those who work for their release.
Let them come home soon.
Thank You Father, Amen

New Howard County Veterans' Service Officer Appointed

Robert Ladd has been named Veterans' Service Officer for Howard County. Howard County Commissioners voted to appoint Ladd to the position effective January 1, 2008. He was appointed a one year term.

Ladd was appointed the position following the death of William Allen Polsgrove Jr. who died in October, 2007. Polsgrove served for 11 years as Veterans' Service Officer.

“ Thank you for the appointment,” Ladd stated. “ It is a great privilege to serve the commissioners and the Veterans of this county. “ I will give wholeheartedly to my brothers and sisters who served our country,” he said. “ I will make sure they get what they deserve from the government.”

Ladd worked with America West Airlines and served with the U.S. Air Force as Chief of Information Management at Wright-Patterson AFB. He was Chapter Commander for the Disabled American Veterans Chapter 28 and served as secretary and treasurer for the Howard County Veterans Council.

News From The Day Room

Our members asked for it and ….They got it.

We now have a new extremely nice slate top, drop pocket pool table. Our members have donated more than $500.00 toward the purchase of this table.

We also recently acquired our own Karaoke Player and the Karaoke Discs are on their way. We have been singing karaoke in the big room for the past two years and a lot of people enjoyed it. Becky and Deb were having to bring their systems out for this to happen, and if they weren't there no one could sing. So now, there will always be one here for your enjoyment.

Also, we now have established hours for the Day Room.
Sunday- Thursday...6 am- 12 midnight
Friday & Saturday… 6 am-2am
( hours may be extended for special events )

We are on the hunt to purchase a Used Heavy Duty Truck with a dump bed. If you know where we can find one, please contact: Head Trustee Rick Balser at the grounds. 765-6280297 Or e-mail Rick at vveterans@aol.com

We always welcome suggestions from our members for improving these grounds. So if you have any, please feel free to contact us via e-mail or leave a message on the phone…765-628-0297
